ONE Life

Wife. Mom. Daughter. Daughter-in-law. Sister. Sister-in-law. Aunt. Employee. Employer. Coach. Friend. Neighbor. Customer. Child Of God.

We all wear many hats, each with its own set of responsibilities and defined roles. Your list may be longer or shorter than the one above, but in any case, you find yourself in many different roles day to day.

In my own life, those roles certainly change day to day, and if I'm honest minute by minute. But am I the same person in whatever situation I find myself? Do my sweet sons know the same Mandy that the neighbors know? Sadly y'all that's not always the case. Why do we save our best for others?

Do my co-workers know the same Mandy that my parents know, inside and out? How quick are we to put on the million watt smile and answer "I'm great!" to the everyday chit chat question of "How are you?" when the reality of the storm brewing inside is overwhelming?

But God . . .
He's the same "yesterday, today and forever." He never changes. He is faithful and true. And I believe that's just what we need to hang on to for our ONE life. When doubts and lies about your own identity and worth creep in, choose to trust the ONE who knows you by name, who loves you and delights in you.

"O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I am far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord."
Proverbs 139:1-4 (New Living Translation)

If you keep reading that Proverb, you will see more about what God knows about us and how He is always with us. I believe he calls us to ONE everlasting life - one that glorifies Him alone. Let the writer's words be a prayer for us today: "Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life." Proverbs 139:24
